How to Deal with People

As an introvert I often like to avoid a group of people because it drains my energy, leaving me tired. But this year I needed some leadership skills on my resume so I decided to jump in and be an officer, out of no where, to a new found club... And I had no idea what I was doing. All my life I have been taught to be quiet and listen to others. Without knowing, that hindered my ability to be a leader because as a leader you must take action by being direct with others and offering suggestions on how this club can improve. No matter how much you worry about what others may think of you. I was in way over my head. People can be tough and difficult to work with. But that is a life lesson, is to learn to work with the situation that you are currently in with the best of your abilities. And to learn and grow from your mistakes. People can be irritating to work with but its important to learn how to deal with people. You need to be firm with your stance and positions on topics no matter how heart racing and palm sweating it may be. It lets them know that you are taking the tasks just as seriously as they are. It's important to deal with people via projects and come out as victorious as you can.

People have to maintain their cool during a tough situation and if the group does not like what you have done and kick you out then that's their problem not yours. Don't let people run over you. So what if they are talking about you behind your back? Let them. Let them do whatever they feel they need to do and show them that you are not a pushover and that you are doing everything you can to help out. Do not waste your energy on pointless worries. It's not good for you or for them if you get angry towards the group.

Be informative, so if people argue with you or claim that they didn't say this or that then show them the evidence. If you don't have any excuses of how bad the timing is then try to improve the next time, if they let you. Keep growing and improving. If they don’t want you the next time then keep pushing on and moving forward. Don't read too much into things via your texts or emails. Read and release. Let go and move on. Say to yourself “I am a strong person and I know what I am doing. I will not let anyone push me around” repeat that as many times as needed. You are the boss of your emotions. How I dealt with leadership is by trying to leave my emotions out of it. Some may disagree with this but it helps to avoid talking out of anger. Doing this will cause you less problems in the end. Unless you can fully control your emotions do not use them and instead be like Sheldon from the Big Bang Theory and be factual.

Finally, be calm and have faith in the process. Trust what life circumstances present to you and see every opportunity as a growing experience.

Much love,

Jess
